Coleman, Marietta Emmons, 87, wife of Dr. Robert Emerson “Clem” Coleman, died Jan. 3, 2017 at her residence in Wilmore, KY. Born May 17, 1929 in Lancaster, OH, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary Heigle Emmons. Mrs. Coleman was a 1948 Asbury College graduate and spent her life in partnership with her husband in ministry for 27 years in Kentucky, 18 years in Chicago and 8 years in Boston before returning to Wilmore. They traveled extensively throughout the world. She was passionate about creating an open home. This witty, pool-loving, ice-cream eating, coupon-hoarding, Jesus-serving woman invested in people – advising, encouraging, sharing wonderful meals and entertaining thousands of friends and travelers. Her life was a testimony to a love that gives meaning to the endless ordinary tasks she did for others. She is survived by her husband and three children, Alathea (Jim) Blishcke, Midland, TX, Angie (Dr. Lawson) Stone, Wilmore, KY and Jimmy R. (Shirley) Coleman, Augusta, GA; ten grandchildren, Whitney Blischke, Zachary Stone, Hannah Stone Wegmann, Lyman Stone, Dr. Juliana Colemen, Dr. Joshua Coleman, Elijah Coleman, Isabelle Coleman, Abram Coleman and Sophia Coleman; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 in Estes Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary, 204 N. Lexington Ave., Wilmore, KY 40390. Burial followed in Wilmore Cemetery. Visitation was at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at Estes Chapel until the service time. Memorial contributions are suggested to the One Mission Society, P.O. Box 1648, Monument, CO 80132-1648.
