A local business owner is preparing to feed around 150 to 200 community members for New Year’s.

“I try to help a lot of people,” said Julain Gallegos, owner of Mi Pequena Haceinda. “My goal for every year is to cook for 400 people every Thanksgiving. I love to help people.” 

Gallegos, a  Nicholasville resident, cooks the food at his restaurant and then takes it to various locations to feed those in need. 

Not only is Gallegos planning to feed people, he has also helped clothe local in-need families. Gallegos dropped off over 30 bags of clothes to the Jessamine County Attorney Office on Wednesday, Dec. 7. 

Gallegos wanted the clothing to be distributed to the less fortunate before the weather began to get colder.

The bags contained children, women and men’s clothing.

County Attorney Brian Goettl said that some of the staff of the County Attorney’s Office took their lunch break to fold the clothes and sort them after Gallegos brought them in.

“We already contacted people, who we know struggle, and have given them some of the clothing,” Tammy Hammond, Child Support Case Worker, said. “I had five or six families come get clothes and they were so appreciative.” 

Some of the clothes went to the Salvation Army, and the newer coats went to the Nicholasville Fire Department’s, Toys for Tots drive.

“The clothes are all gone,” Hammond said. “The families were so happy to receive the clothing.” 

The County Attorney’s Office is reaching out to the Homeless Shelter to get Gallegos in contact with them for New Years. 

“God blessed me with a lot, and that’s something I want to share with people,” Gallegos said.
