THURSDAY

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a movie night of 1974’s  “Blazing Saddles,” beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 13. The event is free and open to the public. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Find your Fandom: DC from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Healthy Life Club from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13. 

—Nicholasville/Jessamine County Parks and Recreation is opening the Coolidge Building for walkers and public exercise from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Coolidge Building is at 499 E. Maple St. For more information, visit njcpr.org or call (859) 885-9787.

—A women’s Bible study will meet Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army on 205 South 1st St. during the fall. All women are invited. The group will be reading and studying scriptures related to the life of the disciples of Jesus. The book, “Twelve Ordinary Men” by John MacArthur will be used as a supplement to the teaching. They will discuss a different disciple each week with an overview given Sept. 1. Bring your Bibles and learn together. No childcare is available. —The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts a creative-writing class with Carolyn Barnum every Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. —Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a Bible study (First John) with new Wilmore UMC Pastor D. Merricks, beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. 

—Wilmore TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets Thursdays in the community room at Jessamine Village, at the end of South Maple Street in Wilmore. New members are welcome. Contact Eva Jacobs at (859) 858-3456.

—Walking With Love Food Pantry at 220 Edgewood Drive is open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday.

—In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Salvation Army will be collecting new or gently used bras for the homeless women in The Salvation Army’s homeless shelter and for women-in-need within the Lexington community. The bra drive will continue throughout the month of October.  Please bring all donated bras to The Bra Drive Bin located in The Salvation Army Administration Building. We are looking for both regular bras and sports bras for all sizes and body types; from pre-teen to plus size adult. 

FRIDAY

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Job Search Assistance from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. 

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host  Cafe` Cabaret with The Woodall Sisters beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Friday Oct. 14 the event is free and open to the public. 

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts Flex Exercise with Aureol Moore every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m.

SATURDAY

—Jessamine County Public Library will host JCPL Comic Surge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. 

—The Nicholasville Fire Department is hosting a Fire Prevention Open House from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Station #2 in support of Fire Prevention Week and this year’s campaign.  The event will include Sparky the Fire Dog, Tour of the station and fire trucks, bouncy house, the Fire Safety House, and a cookout with the fireman. Fire prevention week is Oct. 9-15. 

—The Wilmore farmers market is now open and will take place Saturdays at the city hall parking lot in downtown Wilmore. Hours are 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Find the Wilmore Farmers Market page on Facebook for more information.

— A free meal will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday at 303 W. Maple Street in the Community Center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church.  The meal is a restaurant quality hot, nutritionally balanced meal.  Takeout meals are also available, one meal per person.  The meal is funded by freewill donations from churches, businesses and residents of Jessamine Co.  No one is ever asked to pay for their meal.  Volunteers are always welcome.  To gain information about volunteering or donating please call the church office at:  885-4481 and inquire about Manna Meals.

SUNDAY

—Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, 100 Lime Lane, offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

MONDAY

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Mother Goose Storytime from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host a Make and Take Craft: Pine Cone and Clay Hedge Hog from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host a Film Creators Club from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. 

—Culver’s of Nicholasville is sponsoring a share night with Anchor Baptist Church for Operation Christmas Child.  Everyone is invited to join us from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10  to support this ministry.

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host “Life!” a follow up to “Planet Earth” series beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 17, and 31. The event is free and open to the public. 

—The joint meetings of the Jessamine County Democratic Executive Committee and the Jessamine County Democratic Woman’s Club are hosted the second Monday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the fiscal courtroom of the Jessamine County Court House.  Everyone welcome! — Providence Christian Church, 101 Providence Way, hosts a “Bodies in Motion” low-impact exercise class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a flex exercise with Aureol More beginning at 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. 

TUESDAY

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Introduction to Ancestry Library Edition from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Family Storytime from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. 

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Village Vespers beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. 

—Asbury University will host Serving Those Who Serve Us, understanding military culture in your community, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Asbury University. The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about how to serve active and former service members and their families who live in the community. —The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts scrapbooking with Sharon Campbell every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

— Walking With Love’s Laundry Love ministry is offered every third Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Laundry, 630 Edgewood Drive. Households of up to four people can do a double-load of laundry for free; households of more than four people can do a triple-load of laundry for free. Anyone can use the service, but each household is limited to using it once every three months. An I.D. will be requested in order to track how often households are using the service.

WEDNESDAY

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Preschool Storytime from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Coloring Craze from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host What’s Brewing: The Local Honeys live music from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19. 

—Jessamine County Public Library will host Exercise with Ease from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19. 

—Walking With Love Food Pantry at 220 Edgewood Drive is open from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

UPCOMING EVENTS 

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Loren and Lee Present beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Friday Oct. 21. 

—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Asbury University Masterworks Series beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 27. 

—The Jessamine County Girl Scouts will host a Trunk or Treat from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 in the Nicholasville Christian Church Parking Lot. The event is open to the public and will have hot dogs, chili, trick or treating and a trunk decorating contest. Monetary donations will be accepted for food.
