The East Jessamine High School Drama Club will soon be showing their first of three plays for the 2016 school year.

The comedy called “Play On!,” by Rick Abbott, was chosen by the club because it highlights everything that could go wrong in the theatre, Drama Coach Lindsey Carlstedt said.

“It is our fall play,” she said. “We also do our student-led production and our spring musical.”

“It is a story about a theater company who is trying to put on a show but the author of the script that they are producing is very actively involved in the rehearsal process and is constantly making changes,” Carlstedt said. “It highlights the many different things that can go wrong in the process for a production, which is stressful and amusing.”

Students have a little less time to work on the fall production than the student-led production and the spring musical, Carlstedt said.

“We have only been rehearsing for about four weeks,” she said. “By the time we go live, we will only have been rehearsing for about a month.”

The cast includes 10 student actors, a tech crew made up of students, and the student assistant director, Alex Urs.

The process of auditions, as well as the play itself, are run like a college theatre.

“That way if the students choose to go into Theatre they can practice those skills and understand the process,” Carlstedt said.

Tuesday, Sept. 27,  is the final dress rehearsal for the play.

“Play On!” will debut at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, and run through Saturday, Oct. 1. The Sunday matinee will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.

“We will be performing for students at the highchool on Wednesday the 28th,” Carlstedt said.

The play is general admission and tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

“This show provides an inside look for the process of putting together a production,” Carlstedt said. “I think it will be a very entertaining show.”
