THURSDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Lunch & Learn for Book Lovers from 12 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15. 

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Family Game Night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a movie night beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15. “The Magic of Belle Isle” (2012; PG; 109 mins.) An alcoholic novelist loses his “muse” until he rents a summer cabin and begrudgingly befriends a single mom and her three girls. Inspiration is born again! Starring Morgan Freeman. Free and open to the public.

— Nicholasville/Jessamine County Parks and Recreation is opening the Coolidge Building for walkers and public exercise from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Coolidge Building is at 499 E. Maple St. For more information, visit njcpr.org or call (859) 885-9787.

— A women’s Bible study will meet Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army on 205 South 1st St. during the fall. All women are invited. The group will be reading and studying scriptures related to the life of the disciples of Jesus. The book, “Twelve Ordinary Men” by John MacArthur will be used as a supplement to the teaching. They will discuss a different disciple each week with an overview given Sept. 1. Bring your Bibles and learn together. No childcare is available. — The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts a creative-writing class with Carolyn Barnum every Thursday beginning at 1 p.m.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a Bible study (First John) with new Wilmore UMC Pastor D. Merricks, beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. 

— Wilmore TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets Thursdays in the community room at Jessamine Village, at the end of South Maple Street in Wilmore. New members are welcome. Contact Eva Jacobs at (859) 858-3456.

— Walking With Love Food Pantry at 220 Edgewood Drive is open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday.

FRIDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Jump & Jive from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. 

— Jessamine County Public Library will host Driveway to 5K’s first practice and orientation from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. 

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Family Book Club Wrap-up Party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Café Cabaret with “Unbridled Harmony” beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. This Lexington Chapter of The Sweet Adelines (a national organization of women’s barbershop singing) will charm your evening with favorite melodies and tight acapella harmonies.  Light refreshments will be served at intermission.  Free and open to the public but please call Alan at 858-3865 ext. 238 to reserve your place.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts Flex Exercise with Aureol Moore every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m.

SATURDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Pokemon Go Walk from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. 

— The Wilmore farmers market is now open and will take place Saturdays at the city hall parking lot in downtown Wilmore. Hours are 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Find the Wilmore Farmers Market page on Facebook for more information.

SUNDAY

— The first annual 5 O’Clock Somewhere cornhole benefit heroin abuse awareness will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 210 E. Maple St. Sign-up starts at 12 p.m. and the cost is $20 per team. There will be a 50/50 payout based on entries that will go to heroine awareness, the Chrysalis House, that specializes in counseling and long term job placement assistance for pregnant and parenting women. There will be two out of three games plus a loser bracket, food will be provided and there will also be raffles and prizes. 

— Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, 100 Lime Lane, offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

MONDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host Mothergoose storytime from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept 19. 

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Film Creators Club from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19. 

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host “Life!” (50 min. each) a follow up to the wildly popular “Planet Earth” series, beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 12, 19 and 26. These new nature videos, narrated by Oprah Winfrey, set an even higher standard for stunning film and photography! Free and open to the public.

— The joint meetings of the Jessamine County Democratic Executive Committee and the Jessamine County Democratic Woman’s Club are hosted the second Monday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the fiscal courtroom of the Jessamine County Court House.  Everyone welcome! — Providence Christian Church, 101 Providence Way, hosts a “Bodies in Motion” low-impact exercise class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

TUESDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host Family Storytime from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20. 

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Village Vespers beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20.              Wesley Village is pleased and proud to welcome Bishop Al Gwinn for the message; the Village Singers for special music. Free and open to the public.  

— Nicholasville TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Creekside Senior Apartments, 407 N. Second St. in Nicholasville. For more information, contact Donald Withers at (859) 312-7455.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts scrapbooking with Sharon Campbell every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

— Walking With Love’s Laundry Love ministry is offered every third Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Laundry, 630 Edgewood Drive. Households of up to four people can do a double-load of laundry for free; households of more than four people can do a triple-load of laundry for free. Anyone can use the service, but each household is limited to using it once every three months. An I.D. will be requested in order to track how often households are using the service.

WEDNESDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host Preschool Storytime from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. 

— Walking With Love Food Pantry at 220 Edgewood Drive is open from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

UPCOMING EVENTS

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a Teen ACT Math Workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22. 

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Asbury University Masterworks Series beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22. The 28-member Student Orchestra will perform a wide variety of favorite pieces under the direction of Prof. Nathan Miller. Reception with delicious hors d’oeuvres will follow. Free and open to the public. 

— The Jessamine County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 213 N. Main St. Radall Carrier will be the guest speaker. There will be a collection of Indian and pre-history artifacts.

— The first annual Race for the Arts, a 5K run/walk event to benefit the Creative Art League, is going to be hosted Oct. 8 in downtown Nicholasville. A mural that has been painted for the Windstream brick wall that is on Main Street (in the 100 N Main block) will be unveiled following the presentation of the race awards.

— The Drury/McGohon annual family reunion will be hosted on Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Blue Building at City/County Park. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m. Help setting up would be appreciated. Bring your favorite dish or dessert.
