THURSDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a virtual field trip from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1.

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a meet the artist with Jacqueline Schwartz from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 1.

— Jessamine Career and Technology Center (JCTC) will host an open house on Sept. 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Students and parents are invited to attend this meet-and-greet. Light refreshments will be provided.

— Jessamine Public Library will host a teen gaming tournament from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 1.

— Nichoasville Christian Church, 104 S 2nd, will be having their homecoming celebration on Sunday, Sept. 25. The day will begin with a special morning service, a potluck dinner at 5 p.m. followed with an evening of music. — A women’s Bible study will meet Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army on 205 South 1st St. during the fall. All women are invited. The group will be reading studying scriptures related to the life of the disciples of Jesus. The book, Twelve Ordinary Men by John MacArthur will be used as a supplement to the teaching. They will discuss a different disciple each week with an overview given Sept. 1. Bring your Bibles and learn together. No childcare is available. — The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts a creative-writing class with Carolyn Barnum every Thursday beginning at 1 p.m.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a Bible study (1 John) with new Wilmore UMC Pastor D. Merricks, beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursdays.

FRIDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host job search assistance from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 to 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts Flex Exercise with Aureol Moore every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m.

SATURDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a movie spectacular from 7:30 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.

— A summer edition Jessamine movie spectacular showing of “Star Wars the Force Awakens,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the City County Park. The night will include a petting zoo, face painting, inflatables, food trucks and a fireworks show.

— A tapestry handweaving workshop will be held on Saturdays, Aug. 6-27, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Polvino Family Art Center in Nicholasville. — Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 100 Lime Lane, offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

MONDAY

— Providence Christian Church, located at 101 Providence Way, hosts a “Bodies in Motion” low-impact exercise class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a flex exercise with Aureol Moore begining at 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

TUESDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a learn and play children’s discovery lab from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept 6.

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a teen coding club from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

— Jessamine Piecequilters will meet the first and third Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. during the months of June, July and August. The group meets at Nicholasville Christian Church. Beginning and advanced quilters are welcome. For more information, call (859) 881-1854.

— Nicholasville TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Creekside Senior Apartments, 407 N. Second St. in Nicholasville. For more information, contact Donald Withers at (859) 312-7455.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts scrapbooking with Sharon Campbell every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

— Walking With Love’s Laundry Love ministry is offered every third Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Laundry, 630 Edgewood Drive. Households of up to four people can do a double-load of laundry for free; households of more than four people can do a triple-load of laundry for free. Anyone can use the service, but each household is limited to using it once every three months. An I.D. will be requested to track how often households are using the service.

WEDNESDAY

— Jessamine County Public Library will host a silver screen: “Where Eagles Dare” from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

— Jessamine County Public Library will host U can Create from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday Sept. 7.

— Wesley Village Book Club will host Bob Thurman leading a discussion of “A Big Little Life: Memoir of a Joyful Dog Named Trixie” beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7. This is Dean Koontz’s first ever non-fiction book telling the deeply moving story of his life with his beloved golden retriever. Free and open to the public.

— Walking With Love Food Pantry at 220 Edgewood Drive is open from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

— Jessamine County Public Library will host Healthy Life Club from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 8.

— A Military Honors Ceremony will be hosted beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at Lighthouse Baptist Church. The event will feature special music and the National Anthem sung by American Idol, Kelly Casey. Four Purple Heart recipients form Vietnam will be honored.

— Creative Art League of Jessamine County will be hosting an annual group exhibit by members of the Creative Art League’s Visual Arts Association. The exhibit will last during the month of September. The opening reception for the exhibit is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, at the Polvino Family Art Center.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host “Presidential Praise: Our Presidents and their Hymns” Dr. C. Edward Spann – recently retired Dean of Fine Arts, Dallas Baptist University, beginning at 1:15 p.m on Friday, Sept. 9. He comes to present a truly inspirational program of how faith-through-song has helped sustain many of our nation’s finest leaders. This fall he has been invited to present the same at a White House gathering in Washington, D.C! Free and open to the public.

— Wesley Chapel, United Methodist Church, 3195 Sugar Creek in Nicholasville is celebrating its Homecoming Celebration, September 11. Morning worship begins at 11:00 a.m. A potluck meal will follow the service. Steve Burton and Jason Brock will provide music at 1:30. Come bring a dish and join us for worship, food, fellowship and music.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host “Life!” (50 min. each) A follow up to the wildly popular “Planet Earth” series, beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Mondays, September 12, 19 and 26. These new nature videos, narrated by Oprah Winfrey, set an even higher standard for stunning film and photography.Free and open to the public.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will be celebrating Constitution Day* beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Resident history professor Doug Herman will present the “who, what, where, when and why” of America’s most revered document. (*official holiday is Sept. 17)

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a movie night beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15. “The Magic of Belle Isle” (2012; PG; 109 mins.)

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Café Cabaret with “Unbridled Harmony” beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. This Lexington Chapter of The Sweet Adelines (a national organization of women’s barbershop singing) will charm your evening with favorite melodies and tight acapella harmonies. Light refreshments will be served at intermission. Free and open to the public but please call Alan at 858-3865 ext. 238 to reserve your place.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Village Vespers beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Wesley Village is pleased and proud to welcome Bishop Al Gwinn for the message; the Village Singers for special music. Free and open to the public.

— Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Asbury University Masterworks Series beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22.

The 28-member Student Orchestra will perform a wide variety of favorite pieces under the direction of professor Nathan Miller. Reception with delicious hors d’oeuvres will follow. Free and open to the public.

— The first annual Race for the Arts, a 5k run/walk event to benefit the Creative Art League, is going to be hosted Oct. 8 in downtown Nicholasville. A mural that has been painted for the Windstream brick wall on Main Street (in the 100 N. Main block) will be unveiled following the presentation of the race awards.
