— A women’s Bible study will meet Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army on 205 South 1st St. during the fall. All women are invited. The group will be reading studying scriptures related to the life of the disciples of Jesus. The book, Twelve Ordinary Men by John MacArthur will be used as a supplement to the teaching. — A summer edition Jessamine movie spectacular showing of “Star Wars the Force Awakens,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the City County Park. The night will include a petting zoo, face painting, inflatables, food trucks and a fireworks show.

— A tapestry handweaving workshop will be held on Saturdays, Aug. 6-27, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Polvino Family Art Center in Nicholasville. — Walking With Love’s Laundry Love ministry is offered every third Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Laundry, 630 Edgewood Drive. Households of up to four people can do a double-load of laundry for free; households of more than four people can do a triple-load of laundry for free. Anyone can use the service, but each household is limited to using it once every three months. An I.D. will be requested to track how often households are using the service.

The 28-member Student Orchestra will perform a wide variety of favorite pieces under the direction of professor Nathan Miller. Reception with delicious hors d’oeuvres will follow. Free and open to the public.

— The first annual Race for the Arts, a 5k run/walk event to benefit the Creative Art League, is going to be hosted Oct. 8 in downtown Nicholasville. A mural that has been painted for the Windstream brick wall on Main Street (in the 100 N. Main block) will be unveiled following the presentation of the race awards.
