Thanks for the assistance

To the editor,

On Monday, Feb. 8, the Bluegrass area was hit with a severe winter storm. That night, while traveling home from work on U.S. 27 to my farm in Garrard County, my Ford F-150 slid off the road and into a ditch. I struck the ditch with such force that I was propelled up and onto my driver’s side.

I came to a stop less than one foot from a power line pole. By the grace of God, (and a securely fastened seat belt) I lived to tell the tale.

I want to thank the members of this community who immediately came to my aid. Two young men, still in high school, and another gentlemen were the first to reach me. They helped me climb up and out of my now lopsided vehicle. They had already called 9-1-1, fearing the worst.

The Nicholasville police responded quickly as did the fire department (both engine and EMS). The officer who took charge was assertive in calling for snow plows/salt trucks and in finding me transport home.

As it turned out, Bobby Mullins and his co-worker from David’s Towing showed up to right my vehicle and tow it in. Bobby’s parents, who are my neighbors, were in Nicholasville at the time and offered to take me home. I could not have planned it better myself had I known I would wreck.

Again, to all who helped me that very cold, harsh night, I want to say “Thank you.”

Malinda Abbott, Garrard County
