West Jessamine senior Faith Kempf will be competing at the state meet in Louisville thanks to a strong effort at Woodford County in the region three swim meet Friday and Saturday.
Kempf won the 500-yard freestyle, an event she holds the region record in, by 18 seconds over Emma Coakley of Elizabethtown.
Kempf logged a 5:17.38 time, five seconds quicker than her preliminary time.
Kempf also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley, just more than a second slower than region champ Amber Cooper of Central Hardin. Kempf swam a 2:12.60, while Cooper finished in 2:11.34.
Kempf’s 200-yard medley relay team finished 10 in the region.
Kempf was joined on the relay by Bonnie Lewis, Lindsey Daugherty and Melinda Trump. The team finished the event in 2:12.68.
The West girls finished 11th out of th 18th competing teams over the weekend. Woodford County won the meet.
The West boys finished ninth out of the 15 competing teams. Woodford won on the boys’ side as well.
West’s Micheal Goodlett finished third in the 50-yard freestyle event with a 23.95 time.
Reid Allen also captured third place, swimming a 1:05.26 time in the 100-yard breaststroke. Allen shaved three seconds off his sixth-place prelim time.
