The Jessamine County Conservation District has programs available to landowners in Jessamine County that address the bush honeysuckle program in our woodlands.
The programs are EQIP and WHIP. These two incentive programs will help offset the cost of removing three invasive shrubs: bush honeysuckle, privet and multiflora rose.
The requirements of the program are simple. Individuals must sign up for at least 10 acres of land and have the invasive species present and it must be removed by total kill. This means either pulling out of the ground or cutting and spraying with an appropriate herbicide.
The Kentucky Division of Forestry determines the density and will provide the technical assistance for completion. Sign ups are through NRCS and can be arranged at the Jessamine County Conservation District office by phoning 859-885-4673 or you can contact Kent Slusher at 1-800-866-0876 at the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
