The West Jessamine and Asbury cross country teams traveled to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete in the 37th Trailblazer Cross-Country Invitational.
The Eagles won the men’s division at the mean, the club’s first first-place finish in seven years. The Eagles won on a sixth-man tiebreaker, thanks to the effort of former West runner Forrest Stratford.
Jarred Brewster was the team’s top finisher. His time of 27:24 earned him second place. Josiah Callicott finished fifth while Tyler Zweifel took ninth. Brian Troyer and Austin Powell finished 13th and 14 respectively.
For the women’s team, Maighdlin Ury finished 10th with a time of 23:13.53. Sally Schmachtenberger finished 13th. Beth Crist and Leah Curry finished 15th and 16th respectively. Katie Liversedge took 18th. The Eagles finished second as a team.
At the high school level, the Colts girls’ team finished 15th and the boys’ club finished 14th.
The girls were lifted by Elle Lintemuth’s 33rd place finish and Allison Brown’s 57th out of the 154-person event. Ashley Neyman finished 79th.
Jeff Walker finished 51st for the boys’ team, with a time of 19:00.31. Ryan Yoder finished 62nd while Joseph Durbin took 79th.
East Jessamine, meanwhile, was taking part in the Lexington Catholic Invitational.
Rebekah Henderson ran a 24:01 time to be the Jaguars’ top finisher at 107th place. Shelby Courtney took 116th with a 24:25 time. Lacey Tingley finished 134th while Daylei Dekrey finished 159th.
For the boys’ team, Nicholas Huzl ran a 21:27 to capture 251st place. Robbie Laufenberger finished 271st while Zachery Beyler’s time of 25:12 earned him 320th place. Lawrence White took home 328th.
Both high school teams will be taking part in the Woodford County Invitational Saturday. The meet begins at 10 a.m. and will take place at Sinking Springs.
