NEWS

What area does The Journal cover?
The Journal is a community newspaper mainly covering Jessamine County, Kentucky. Nicholasville is the county seat, and the newspaper's office is located there. Wilmore is the other incorporated city in the county. The Journal routinely covers news in these cities, as well as the rural areas of Jessamine County. We also offer advertising about goods available at local and regional stores, sales, coupons, etc.

How do I get a news brief in The Journal?
You can bring the information to us in person, call it in, e-mail it or fax it to us. Please remember to include the name, address and telephone number of a contact person in case we have questions.

How do I get an obituary in The Journal?
Obituaries that are to appear in The Jessamine Journal must come from a licensed funeral home or mortuary. Obituaries must be submitted no later than 2 p.m. the Tuesday before it is to be published. The Journal will prepare the obituary and send it back to the funeral home for final proofing. An approved proof of the obituary must be returned to The Journal by 10 a.m. Wednesday morning to ensure it will appear in that week’s newspaper. For additional information, call (859) 885-5381.

How do I get my Letter to the Editor submitted?
Letters to the Editor should be written to the editor, not a third party or the public. They should be no more than 300 words and must include the writer’s name, address and telephone number for verification. Handwritten letters will not be accepted. Anonymous letters will not be published. Every letter may be edited for length, clarity and content. Any letter deemed libelous or in poor taste will not be published. The Journal isn’t interested in letters about businesses’ customer service or judges’ decisions. A note of thanks that contains more than a few names should be in the form of a paid advertisement, not a letter. Letters are due by 5 p.m. Friday for the following week’s paper, but submitting a letter on time doesn’t guarantee that it will be in the next issue. Other considerations as to when a letter is published are its timeliness and the number of letters already received. Priority will be given to letters from local people about local issues. Letters may be sent to Letters to the Editor, The Jessamine Journal, 507 N. Main St., Nicholasville, KY 40356, or by e-mail to news@jessaminejournal.com.

How do I get my engagement, wedding, birth, military or anniversary announcement published?

Forms for weddings, engagements, anniversaries and birth announcements may be picked up at our office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or can be downloaded from The Journal Web site. ADVERTISING

How much does it to run an ad in the newspaper?
It all depends on the type of ad you want to run. There are classified ads, classified display ads, display ads (or ROP) ads, website ads and inserts. Depending on your need, one of these, or maybe a combination, will do the job for you. Call our advertising department. One of our representatives will be glad to work with you to develop your best solution.

How can I justify the cost of newspaper advertising?
Very simply, advertising in The Journal is very economical. If you want to reach the most people in our area for the least amount of money, The Journal should be your choice. By comparing total readers with total ad cost, the cost per reader is extremely low. When you compare The Journal to other media on the same terms, it becomes the best way to reach readers in and around Jessamine County. It is also important to remember that our readers purchase The Journal each week for both local news and advertising. This guarantees your message is seen by all. We also offer one order, one bill combination buys with The Advocate Messenger in Danville, The Central Record in Lancaster, The Interior Journal in Stanford and The Winchester Sun in Winchester to run advertising in combination with their newspapers and websites that can greatly expand the area your message can reach.
